DEKRA’s history begins with the automobile; in 1925, the Deutsche Kraftfahrzeug-Überwachungs-Verein e.V (‘German Motor Vehicle Inspection Association’) was founded in Berlin. Since then, DEKRA has continuously worked to make the world a safer place – on the road, at work and at home. Today, our company is one of the world’s leading expert organizations. Product Testing & Certification
Our Product Testing & Certification experts test and certify consumer, industrial, automotive, and ICT products, as well as products used in explosive atmospheres and medical devices for worldwide markets. These services were started within DEKRA in 2009 when DEKRA acquired part of KEMA Quality, known for the widely recognized KEMA-KEUR quality mark. Over the past couple of years, DEKRA has expanded and diversified its product safety related service offering in line with technological developments, such as electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and the Internet of Things (IoT).
In 2015, DEKRA acquired QuieTek, an organization with labs in Taiwan and China focused on EMC & wireless testing for consumer electronics. Shortly afterwards we formed a joint venture with testing company iST Group in Taiwan, further reinforcing our organization’s position in East Asia in reliability and failure analyses in automotive electronics. Simultaneously, DEKRA acquired Spanish testing company AT4 wireless which is focused on wireless, interoperability and conformance testing for telecommunications device manufacturers. This readied our service unit’s portfolio for the Internet of Things.
More recently, we incorporated high power and high voltage laboratory VEIKI-VNL in Hungary, strengthening our portfolio for the energy and power market. In October 2017, Epoche & Espri joined DEKRA, adding renowned expertise in product cyber security evaluations and assessments to the service unit’s offering. Thanks to DEKRA’s strong growth in laboratories worldwide, our global partner network and local service combined with these recent acquisitions, we offer a comprehensive and specialized portfolio.

Vision 2025
In 2015 – the year of the DEKRA Group’s 90th birthday – we stood at the dawn of a new era in our company’s history. Based on the statutory mission of our founding fathers, we defined our strategic direction for the next ten years. On the road, at work and at home – DEKRA’s skilled experts will help to improve safety across all the key areas of life. By our 100th birthday, our vision of being “a global partner for a safe world” should have become reality. Our ‘Vision 2025’ describes our model and contains the following five elements:
