Egyptian Refining Company is Egypt's newest oil refinery, worth $4.3 billion, and the country's greatest massive infrastructure project. The Egyptian Refining Company converts less valuable fuel oil into medium and light distillates that meet local consumption needs, removing 186,000 tonnes of CO2 sulfur oxide and 96,000 tonnes of sulfur annually, or about 29 percent of Egypt's current total, and improving the quality of the country's petroleum supply through a public-private partnership.

The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation's Cairo Petroleum Refining Company (CORC), Egypt's largest refinery with 20% of the country's current refining capacity, provides fuel oil as feedstock for the Egyptian Refining Company. The Egyptian Refining Company has the capacity to produce 4.7 million tonnes of refined products and high-quality oil derivatives annually, including 2.3 million
