El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant

El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant

The El-Dabaa nuclear power project, Egypt's first nuclear power plant, is being built in Matrouh Governorate, 250 kilometres west of Alexandria, on the Mediterranean coast. The projected El-Dabaa nuclear power station is being developed by the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom), which will own and operate The Nuclear Power Plant Authority in the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The Egyptian General Authority for Nuclear and Radiological Regulations (ENRRA) granted the plant a site approval permit in March 2019, with the first unit expected to be operating in 2021 and the Dabaa plant expected to be finished in 2026.

The power plant will be made up of four pressurised water reactors (PWRs) with a combined capacity of 4.8 GW, representing up to 50% of Egypt's power generation capacity. The project is intended to stimulate Egypt's economy and industrial development by providing up to 50,000 jobs.
