Al Maktoum International Airport

Because it can accommodate all next generation aircraft, such as the A380 super jumbo, Al Maktoum International Airport is located 40 kilometres from Dubai International Airport and has a capacity of more than 12 million tonnes of cargo and 160 million people per year.

The construction of Al Maktoum International Airport is part of the Dubai World Central project DWC, which is the government of Dubai's largest urban land development project. It consists of six cluster areas: Al Maktoum International Airport, Dubai Logistics City (DLC), DWC Business City, DWC Residential City, Aviation City DWC, and DWC Golf City.

The new airport and its associated infrastructure will be built in stages, with the first phase consisting of one runway and Dubai Logistics City, a multimodal logistics centre for air, sea, and road services.

When Al Maktoum International Airport opened for cargo operations in June 2010, DWC commenced its first phase of operations. General aviation activities commenced in April 2011, followed by economy passenger operations in 2012, with the airport set to open in 2020.
